Leather Strop Folder
The steels used by Nesmuk guarantee an extreme and enduring sharpness. For keeping your folder sharp, we recommend using the Nesmuk folder strop. It is as thoroughly engineered as the folder itself. The core is made from dark brown grenadilla and carries two leather straps coated with a fine diamond paste. Drag the edge over the leathers three or four times - first rough, then fine - to maintain the blades sharpness. The folder strop comes with a fitting leather case. Measurements: length 6 inch / width 1.1 inch
Ergonomic and solid handles for fatigue-free working: The shape of the Nesmuk handle is as aesthetic as it is practical. For the wooden handles, Nesmuk uses only the best, often hand-picked pieces of exquisite quality and certified origin. Nesmuk also offers two high-tech plastics: Juma and Micarta.
Grenadilla is a hardwood that is widely used in Africa. The dark brown, almost black heartwood is interspersed with fine, often dark purple to black stripes that give the wood its characteristic appearance. The enormous hardness and the very fine wood structure lend grenadilla its very smooth surface.
Cocobolo comes from Central and South America. The high-quality heartwood shows a broad spectrum of colours from orange and golden brown to deep red, which is interspersed with black-brown, very straight stripes. Cocobolo is characterised by its enormous hardness and density as well as its high oil content, which gives the wood its fine surface gloss.
Eucalyptus burl comes from Australia. The heartwood of the eucalyptus has a light brown to reddish-grey colour; only the rare burl wood shows the special wavy adhesions and fine eyes, which make this wood unmistakable. Eucalyptus burl is very sophisticated in processing and Nesmuk uses only hand-picked first-class pieces.
Juma Ivory is a precious plastic with a very high mineral content. The material is very hard and unbreakable and very easy to care for, as it is absolutely insensitive to water, grease and cleaning agents. Juma is also characterized by its good thermal properties, which makes it comfortable to hold at all times. Juma Ivory was originally developed as a replacement for ivory and is 90% identical to real ivory.
Juma Black is a noble plastic with a very high mineral content. The material is very hard and unbreakable and very easy to care for, as it is absolutely insensitive to water, grease and cleaning agents. Juma is also characterized by its good thermal properties, which makes it comfortable to hold at all times. Juma Black is deep black and the polished surface shows a fine sheen.
Karelian Birch Burl is a small birch species native to Northern Europe, mainly in the border region between Finland and Russia. Due to the slow growth, the light grey to light brown wood shows the strong, high-contrast grain. Karelian Birch Burl is a typical knife-handle of traditional Scandinavian knives and is unmistakable due to the very conspicuous grain.
Makassar ebony grows in Indonesia and is one of the few colourful species of ebony that is distinguished by a striped grain in different shades of brown and black. Its elegant appearance and very fine texture make it one of the most sought-after and expensive rarities on the global wood market. Nesmuk processes only hand-picked, impeccable pieces of the highest quality.
Micarta is a high-tech plastic whose characteristic grain is created by coloured linen. Micarta is a shock-resistant, hard and unbreakable material that is also resistant to moisture, acids and alkalis, which is why it is a handle material frequently chosen by professional chefs.
Bog oak is not a species of its own: in fact, these are subfossil oak trunks that are up to 5,000 years old and are located in northern German moors and watercourses. If such a trunk is found and recovered in a bog, it must first be dried in a complex drying process that takes several years before it can be processed. The colour varies between brownish and bluish shades of black.
Olive wood is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful woods. Nesmuk uses exclusively hand-picked pieces of wild olive wood from a particular region in Spain – with particularly spectacular grain, light brown to golden yellow, wildly laced with dark stripes. The handles are deliberately not polished to maintain the pleasantly soft feel of the olive wood.
Bahia rosewood occurs exclusively in Brazil. The very bright, yellowish to pink coloured wood is characterised by its striking, often contrasting red grain and extreme hardness. Due to its high price, the wood is usually used only as veneer; Nesmuk processes solid solid wood, which is polished by hand to a high gloss.
Walnut burl is one of the rarest and most expensive European woods in the quality selected by Nesmuk. The real walnut is mainly found in Central and Southern Europe. Even the heartwood is a sought-after precious wood, the precious wood of the rare burls is even more beautiful: Very heavy and hard, Walnut burl is distinguished by its fine dark to golden brown grain.
Zebrano is an African precious wood. The wood is remarkably beautifully striped and so conspicuous that it is immediately recognisable among many other types of wood. On a bright background, very parallel, sharply defined deep brown veins are as drawn in. The wood is hard, relatively dense and heavy; it is mainly used in high-quality furniture construction and as veneer for exclusive woodwork.
Piano lacquer is characterized by its colour depth, colour saturation and very durable surface. Nesmuk manufactures the handles from specially developed fine lacquers. The lacquer is cast in a special process, the handle shells are milled out of the full lacquer and finally elaborately polished by hand to a high gloss finish.
Lapis lazuli is a mineral mixture that has been formed under high pressure and temperature conditions in various rocks, such as marble. Due to its rarity and unique appearance, the blue-gold-brilliant stone has been one of the most sought-after gemstones for more than 5,000 years and can be found in numerous important works of art history, such as the famous death mask of Tutankhamun.
Birch burl is a small birch species native to Northern Europe. Due to its slow growth, the light grey to light brown wood shows a strong, high-contrast grain. Since it is very soft and open-pored at the same time, Nesmuk processes stabilized curly birch: In addition, liquid coloured acrylic glass is drawn into the gaps between the wood under vacuum, making it very fracture-resistant and hard.
Black jade enjoys a special status among the precious stones, as it has a cultural and art-historical significance like no other stone in the world; especially in China, where the Black Jade is regarded as a stone of the gods. Jade originates from volcanic processes and is not only one of the rarest and most expensive gemstones, but also extremely hard and difficult to work with. Nesmuk only processes first-class hand-picked stones.
Silver hammerblow is elaborately refined by hand in the traditional Martelé technique: The fine hammer finish of the solid 925 sterling silver increases the surface area and thus the reflections of the light, so that the silver radiates even more radiance. All Nesmuk folders are produced and finished entirely and exclusively by trained goldsmiths.
Tiger iron is a union of tiger’s eye, hematite and red jasper. These different minerals provide for the unique stripe between silver-grey and red-yellow; at the same time tiger iron is very difficult to work with due to the different characteristics of its various components and requires a lot of experience and care.Desert ironwood originates from the Sonora desert in the USA and Mexico, where it is one of the longest-lived tree species and can live up to 1,500 years. The tree is strictly protected and only small quantities of wood from naturally dead trees are available. It is one of the densest, heaviest and hardest woods in the world and requires complex and demanding processing.
